Lake Zorinsky Zebra Mussel Eradication/Control Project

Agency: U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Papio-Missouri River Natural Resource District

Location: Nebraska

Treatment Type: Physical

Treatment Method Used: Water Drawdown

Adult zebra mussels were discovered during a normal drawdown of Lake Zorinsky in November 2010. Following confirmation of infestation, an additional seven foot drawdown of Lake Zorinsky took place in December 2010, and the lake was drained to the maximum drawdown possible by January 2010. The winter 2010/2011 drawdown of Zorinsky Lake is believed to have diminished the zebra mussel population to the maximum extent possible. Subsequent sampling in 2011 of surrounding did not indicate the presence of zebra mussel veligers.
