The Lake Champlain Boat Steward Program was launched to slow the spread of AIS to inland water through education, outreach, and prevention. It implemented watercraft inspection and decontamination procedures using different control types, including high pressure washing (1800 psi) that is effective in removing 91% of small-bodied organisms from boats. Prevention also included data collection about boat types, where boats are registered, and how boats move between water bodies and across jurisdictional boundaries.
